Two web design quotes that look similar on paper can produce very different results. Here is what actually separates them.

Ask to see real, live client sites — not just a portfolio page

A polished portfolio screenshot tells you very little. Ask for links to sites that are actually live, and check them yourself on your phone: do they load fast, work properly, and still look current a year or two after launch?

Understand what happens after launch

Who fixes something if it breaks in month four? Is technical support included, and for how long? A cheap upfront quote that leaves you stranded later usually costs more in the end.

Ask who owns what

Clarify upfront who owns the domain, the hosting account, and the source code once the project is paid off. This should be a plain, direct answer — if it is vague, treat that as a warning sign.

Check whether SEO is considered from day one

A site that is fast, uses clean URLs, and is structured properly for search engines from the start will always outperform one where SEO is bolted on afterward.
